Duh

"A good night's sleep could reduce hyperactivity and bad behaviour among children, a Finnish study reports.

It has been suggested that some children who lack sleep do not appear tired, but instead behave badly."

On TV

Through work and luck, I was able to sit behind home plate at the Astros game. Look on the left side of the video and you will see me in the front row, wearing an Astros shirt.

I could SO live the life of a rich person.

Dark Side of My Sole

Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon is, without a doubt, one of the greatest albums of all time. It has a permanent home in slot 1 of my six disk CD changer in the car.

Converse makes classic shoes, and I'm hooked on their low tops.

Imagine my glee when I found these shoes.

Of course, I own them now.

Old School Popcorn
When I moved into the dorm my freshman year in 1978 (yikes!), I took two cooking tools: a hot pot and an electric popcorn popper.

You must remember that in 1978, microwave ovens were expensive and rare. The dorm kitchen didn't have one, and no one had one in their room. So if I wanted to cook, I had to go to the dorm kitchen and share the stove with everyone else or use one of my tools.

The hot pot was a small thing that looked like a coffee pot. It held about 2 cups of liquid and plugged into the wall. The only thing it could do was heat up water (to make ramen noodles) or soup.

The popcorn popper, on the other hand, not only made popcorn but also doubled as a grill. I used the bottom part to make many grilled cheese sandwiches. And I made a lot of popcorn. I loved that appliance, and I moved it many times before I finally let it go to the great popcorn factory in the sky.

Over time, I got a microwave. Microwave popcorn became affordable and oh so convenient. I forgot how real popcorn tasted.

When my nephew moved into the dorm for his freshman year last fall, I remembered the popcorn popper. I lusted after them on Amazon, but I didn't buy one. My logic: microwave popcorn works fine.

A few weeks ago, I found a popcorn popper on sale at Kroger for half price. Voila! I have a new popcorn popper. The popcorn is excellent!

Sometimes the old fashioned way is best.

They have a pie factory?

This is a sad story and all, but there is a pie factory? Really?

I now know where I will go to work when I lose my job.

Physique
or
strength?

At the Houston Rockets game last night, a young god named Dwight Howard was matched up with Yao Ming, who is taller, heavier, and much much clumsier.

I said to HWCBN that Dwight would demolish Yao. HWCBN replied that I was confusing physique with strength.

With a physique like that, who cares about strength?

This is what a love about professional basketball - the bodies of the gods.

Beer and ice cream

When I get stressed, I want beer. Or ice cream. It depends on where I am - if I can drink, I go for the beer. If I'm at work or some other place that frowns on alcohol, it has to be ice cream.

Today, I needed both.
It was another incredibly busy week at work, and I was exhausted. HWWNBN informed me on the drive home that I was going to an Astros game with him. Because of a long story involving his nearly blind friend, we drove to the game in separate cars - which means I could not get my drink on.

Baseball without beer can be painful. Especially when you are exhausted already. Let me put it like this - I'll sleep well tonight.

We had fabulous seats, and our team won. I did manage to get one beer down before I ate my helmet sundae (ice cream in a cute little plastic helmet).

And when I got home, I could drink all I want...for a lot less money. An entire six-pack at the neighborhood Quik-E-Mart cost less than one ballpark beer.
I haven't actually combined beer and ice cream yet, but the day may be coming...
